Humanistic Buddhism’s Hsing Yun Theory and Practice
by Venerable Man Yi
In examining the origin of Humanistic Buddhism, these are the theories of Sakyamuni Buddha. However, people in the past practicing Buddhism would mostly hide this beautiful and pragmatic philosophy in the mountains or leave it high on a shelf to be forgotten, and it only became available to scholars for research. Therefore, Buddhism could not become popular in society.
– Venerable Master Hsing Yun
Humanistic Buddhism is a Buddhism based on the human world with an emphasis on living. Humanistic Buddhism’s mission is to establish familial happiness, social equality, political democracy, and a pure land within the mind. Hence, the Venerable Master set four principles for Humanistic Buddhism, “Honor the nation, live a moral life, foster affinity with the world, and have harmony and joy in the mind.”
